Scalable Semiconducting Qubits

In this presentation, we will outline the long-term vision of the Swiss NCCR SPIN and present some of our research activities related to scalable, semiconductor-based qubits. We will highlight recent advancements in integrating thin cobalt (Co) nanomagnets using a front-end-of-line compatible process for electron dipole spin resonance (EDSR) manipulation in Si spin qubits. Our focus will be on a case study involving the design, fabrication, and electrical characterization of compact spin qubit architectures with Co nanomagnets on Fully Depleted Silicon-on-Insulator (FDSOI), with magnet-to-quantum dot pitches ranging from 100 nm down to 10 nm. Additionally, we will discuss the competing FinFET qubit technology platform and its associated figures of merit. Furthermore, the talk will include examples of how this advanced research is incorporated into the EPFL Master’s and Doctoral School curricula, and how we aim to foster innovation in quantum engineering in Switzerland.
